VHS Charity Drop - Donate Your Unwanted VHS Tapes

Welcome to our Charity Drop VHS tape donation program! Many local UK charity shops now unfortunately won't accept VHS donations leaving many with no other options than to send their unwanted tapes to landfill, which is not only terrible for VHS fans but it will also have a detrimental impact on the environment.

Our mission is to collect unwanted VHS tapes from local UK residents and sell them online for charity. Every one of our donated videos will be marked on the site to indicate it's part of our scheme and 40% of every sale will go to one of our selected charities.

By doing so, we are not only helping to reduce waste and promote sustainability but also supporting charities close to us (see here) that are dedicated to important causes.

Here's how our service works, in a simplified step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Fill In The Donation Form
If you have unwanted VHS tapes to donate, simply fill in the donation form across the page.ย Provide your name, address, email, contact number and ideally some images of the particular videos you are looking to donate, and we'll be in touch. We will then arrange collection of your videos once approved. The collection will be via courier and the videos will be required to be boxed up and packaged securely. The courier will bring the delivery label with them.

Step 2: Quality Control & Clean-Up
After we haveย your VHS tapes our team will go through each tape to ensure playback is satisfactory, and if any dirt or mouldย needs cleaning on the tape. This cleaning service will also be provided for free. This is so we can ensure the quality of the product before listing it for sale.

If a video isn't of satisfactory quality we will still be able to reuse, recycle or upcycle elements of the tape. Or dispose of it safely if required.

Step 3:ย VHS Listed
After we have checked your VHS tapes, we will list them on our online store. Each set sale priceย will be determined by condition, rarityย and other relevantย aspects. Every "donation" listing will carry our video charity symbol.

Step 4: Charity Donation
When your listed video(s) are sold 40% of the proceeds will be donated to one or more of our selected charities (see below).

It would be useful if you are able to provide images of your collection (the spines are fine).

Provide any other details, if required.

How Your Donation Works

Once your video(s) have been checked and placed on our site it will be marked with our charity symbol to indicate it's Donation status. Once sold up to 40% of the total sale will be donated.

Does The Whole 40% Get Donated To One Charity?
We pool each sale and split the monies between 3 different UK registered charities - the RSPCA, Asthma and Lung UK, and the National Autistic Society.

What Happens To The Other 60%?
The other 60% will go towards covering our selling fees, packaging and storage costs as well as our free collection and other fuel costs in relation to collections.

Charities We Work With

We currently donate to 3 very different and equally amazing charities, each of which have a personal connection to our team. If there are any other charities you would love to see here please let us know.

VHS Disposal

Why Shouldn't I Throw Out My VHS Tapes?
What many people don't realise is that a VHS tape, like many other products these days, is not biodegradable. So simply dumping them in landfill shouldn't be a consideration. Over the years they'll eventually break down and leak out and potentially contaminate the surrounding environment.

The magnetic tape inside a VHS is made of Mylar, a phthalate-laden form of plastic polyethylene. It's a non-recyclable material and contains chemical coatings. If disposed of incorrectly it could be hazardous.
